Nashua Youth Choir
After several years of planning, the NSA has formed the Nashua Youth Choir in collaboration with the Nashua Community Music School (CMS).
We're thrilled that Sylvie Stewart and Deb Kneeland - both experienced educators within the Nashua School District, will be leading this endeavor, and that Diane Cushing, director of our Symphony Chorus, will be using her decades of experience with young people to act as Artistic Advisor.
The Youth Choir fulfills a number of needs for the NSA, the CMS, and the greater Nashua community:
- For the CMS, which just moved to a new, larger space complete with recital hall, this as an opportunity to provide music instruction to children who (for financial or physical reasons), may not be able to take up an instrument, and/or who are too young for private vocal instruction. The existence of the choir will also enable families with more than one child - which often means different skill levels, ages, etc. - to participate more fully in the CMS experience.
- The NSA views the new program as a way to expand its educational programs and the role of our choral conductor in the broader community at the same time. The choir will build awareness of the NSA's efforts not only in education, but of our concert programs - particularly our choral concerts - as well.
- For the community, the need is real. This is an affordable alternative to many of the more expensive and/or less healthy activities on offer for kids after school. It also provides an alternative for children either not interested or not able to participate in sports.
